Abu Meri reveals that the internet harms children more than the Karosta soldiers' diet

The Health Minister in Cyprus talks about the harm of digital environment, but forgets to mention that Liepāja children have long been resilient against any challenges.

While Riga ministers need to travel all the way to Cyprus to understand that the internet harms children, in Liepāja we've known for ages - our boys and girls are raised on Baltic Sea salt and tram toughening. No algorithms scare them.

Abu Meri announced that internet usage restrictions should be considered until age 15. "That's a good proposal," says Karosta resident Baiba, "my son sits at the computer all the time playing some games anyway, but he'd better go to the beach and dig sand." Meanwhile in Riga, parents are already panicking - how will their children live without TikTok?

The minister's emphasized "multi-sectoral approach" to mental health issues has long been working in Liepāja. Our children have the beach, Karosta, the market and even a tram - everything needed for healthy development. But most importantly - they have real friend groups, not virtual ones.

Interesting that he talks about digital tools on his ministry office computer, but in Liepāja we have the best digital tool - the view of the sea. And about that "Mental Health Together" project - we already have "Liepāja Together," where everyone knows and helps each other. Without EU funding.

Finally, Abu Meri also met with some Norwegian minister. Probably told him how we fight crises in Latvia. But he could have simply sent him to Liepāja - we survive any crisis here with a smile and a good sense of humor.
