airBaltic cancels flights to Tel Aviv - Liepāja tram offers alternative route through Karosta

While the Riga airline searches for detours through Egypt, our tram has been going straight for years.

While Riga residents nervously reschedule their trips to the Middle East, in Liepāja we calmly continue riding the tram. As the oldest residents of Karosta say: "We don't have problems with airspace restrictions - we've been riding the rails since tsarist times."

The airBaltic flight, known for its ability to get lost even on the way to Stockholm, this time found itself in a situation where it had to return to Dubai. The reason? Security concerns. Liepāja resident Jānis Bērziņš comments: "Our tram also turns around sometimes, but only at the end of the route. And that's planned."

It's particularly amusing that the plane had to stop in Bucharest because the crew reached their maximum working time limit. For comparison - our tram driver Gunārs has been driving the same route for 30 years and has never said he's overtired. "He does sometimes doze off at Karosta, but that's normal," regular passengers admit.

Meanwhile in Riga, people are looking for alternatives to reach the Middle East. Liepāja residents have a simple solution - our port. Ships may go slower than planes, but at least they don't take off just to return to the starting point. Plus - you don't have to pay for carry-on luggage.
