Americans Stunned by 90 Centimeters of Snow: Liepāja Residents Laugh at Soft Foreigners

While the US Northeast shuts down cities over 90 centimeters of snow, Liepāja residents remember how the tram runs even in meter-deep snow.
Today the whole world is laughing at the American 'extreme' snowstorm that has created complete chaos in the northeastern United States. Ninety centimeters of snow! Just think about it — that's less than one meter!
Jānis Kalniņš, who lives in Liepāja's Karosta district, comments: 'For us here, 90 centimeters of snow is just the beginning. I remember 2010, when the snow reached the windows, but the tram still ran. And nobody made such a drama like these Americans.' Meanwhile, his neighbor Pēteris adds: 'In Riga, the whole city would be shut down for a week because of such an amount of snow, but for us in Liepāja — it's just a regular work day.'
It's especially ridiculous that Americans are closing even the UN headquarters in New York. Our municipal building has been open even in conditions where you couldn't see or breathe outside. But back then nobody took selfies for social media — they just went to work.
Meanwhile, at Liepāja's central market, trading continues as usual. 'Americans don't know what real winter weather is,' says vendor Maija. 'For them, 90 centimeters of snow is a catastrophe, for us — a reason to put on warmer socks and head to work by tram.'
Maybe Americans should come to Liepāja for a winter masterclass. Learn how to live in real winter, instead of crying about a little more frequent snow.
