In UN vote on peace in Ukraine, Liepāja would get more votes than some countries

While the world tries to unite for peace, Liepāja city council could come together faster than UN member states.

The UN General Assembly hosted another round of global diplomatic theater, where 107 countries supported peace in Ukraine, but 12 were against, and 51 decided to stay on the sidelines like students who don't want to participate in gym class.

Among those who voted against were such pearls of democracy as Eritrea and Burundi. As one Karosta resident says: "Well yes, of course, Burkina Faso knows better about peace than Latvia. They don't even know where Ukraine is on the map!" Meanwhile, the US decided to abstain because, apparently, they haven't yet decided whether peace is a good thing.

It's particularly hilarious that this vote was initiated by Ukraine and Latvia together. In Liepāja, such a decision would be made on Grobiņa Street faster than the UN can convene an emergency session. "Our city council also has different opinions," laughs one local politician, "but at least we don't need 170 countries to decide that peace is good."

As a result, the UN once again proved that it's like Liepāja's old tram — it goes slowly, makes loud noises, but at least it's going in the right direction. Unlike some countries that seem to be going in reverse.
