Survey reveals: 51% of Latvians consider their workplace ergonomic, the other 49% work in Riga

While workers in the capital measure ergonomics with rulers, in Liepaja we've long known that the best workplace is where the wind blows freely.
Researchers from "AJ Produkti" have found that 51% of Latvia's residents consider their workplace ergonomic and comfortable. The remaining 49% most likely work in Riga office buildings, where the air is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Particularly interesting is that unskilled workers complain about pain more often than office workers. Construction worker Valdis Kalniņš by the Karosta canal in Liepaja comments philosophically: "You see, when you cross a bridge every day that divides the city and creates drama, you understand that pain is just a state of mind. Plus, the wind here blows away all our pain."
The survey also reveals that in Riga, 45% believe their employer adequately cares for the work environment, but in rural areas — only 30%. This can be explained by the fact that in Riga, employers can afford to buy ergonomic chairs for 500 euros, while in rural areas ergonomics means "bring a pillow from home."
Women rate their work environment best — 55%, while men — only 46%. "AJ Produkti" explains this by work specifics, but Inese Bērziņa, who works at Liepaja's Grain Elevator, points to another reason: "We women simply don't whine as much about every little inconvenience. We have more important things — like whether the coffee machine works."
While Riga offices measure ergonomics with special programs and consultants, in Liepaja we know a simple truth: the best workplace is where you can see the sea and hear the wind. Everything else is just statistics.
