Survey reveals: teachers flee faster than visitors from cold water at Liepāja Olympic Center

70% of residents believe teachers quit due to work overload. The remaining 30% think they simply discovered they can earn more as Wolt delivery drivers.
Latvian residents have finally discovered why teachers disappear faster than snow in April - 70% of respondents cite overload and burnout. That's almost as many Liepāja residents who admit that the pool at Liepāja Olympic Center always seems a bit too cold on the first entry.
Only 58% of respondents mention low wages as a reason, which proves - people understand that money isn't everything. The main thing is job satisfaction, which is hard to feel when 7th grader Jānis asks whether trigonometry will help him become a TikTok star.
Particularly interesting is that communication problems with students and parents are also among the main reasons. As one experienced math teacher from Liepāja said: 'I can explain quadratic equations, but I can't explain to a parent why their child doesn't understand quadratic equations.'
The best news in the survey - only 12% mention working conditions as a problem. This means most schools are in better shape than the average Rīga apartment building. Meanwhile, the shortage of science and math teachers continues to grow, but at least now we know it's not just Liepāja's problem - it's a challenge for the entire country.
