Austrians need to learn from Liepāja residents: how to properly drive on snow

While people in the Alps are dying in avalanches, here in Liepāja we've been driving on snow like true professionals for years.
Look, once again foreigners prove they have no clue about real winter sports. In the Austrian Alps, two 37-year-old snowboarders decided to ride off-piste and got schooled by Mother Nature herself.
As my neighbor Andris from Old Liepāja says: "Well, we've been driving on Liepāja streets in winter for 30 years – that's more extreme than any snowboarding!" And he's right. When you've survived a drive from the Center to Karosta via Kuršu Street in a February storm, then Alpine slopes seem like a children's playground.
But seriously – what's wrong with these people? They see a warning about level 4 avalanche danger and think: "Oh, only fourth out of five, we're good!" Our Liepāja pensioners are smarter – they even check if the wind is blowing more than 20 meters per second before leaving the house.
While Italy is hosting winter Olympics and avalanches are causing problems there too, we live peacefully here with our daily extreme sports. In Liepāja you don't need any Alpine slopes – our streets after an ice storm are enough. And at least we don't have avalanches, just sand flying through windows sometimes.
