The instructor wasn't just intoxicated, but was also driving 73 kilometers per hour in a 50 km/h zone. Apparently he thought speed would help compensate for slower reaction time. As local resident Jānis says: 'Well I don't know what he was thinking — maybe if you drive faster, the alcohol evaporates quicker?'
The most comic part is that the car didn't have an 'L' sign indicating it was a learner vehicle. So officially this wasn't even a driving lesson, but just a drunk man driving too fast with someone who possibly didn't even know that lessons were supposedly taking place. For comparison — in Riga this situation would be called an 'innovative training method.'
Three administrative violation proceedings have now been initiated against this wonder-instructor. At least he'll be able to show his student what meeting traffic police looks like — a practical lesson about the consequences of not following traffic rules.
