BMW pilot on Zemnieku Street outpaced even the tram — 123 km/h speed surprises only with fine amount

A real speed record took place on Zemnieku Street last night when a young man with a BMW proved that you can drive faster on this street than our tram at maximum speed. At 123 kilometers per hour, he zoomed from Tirgus Street towards Parka Street, raising the question — does a BMW steering wheel transform into an airplane yoke after midnight?

Law enforcement representative Madara Šeršņova reported this nocturnal flight that exceeded the speed limit by 73 kilometers per hour. For comparison — our tram reaches a maximum of 60 km/h in the city, this BMW pilot beat it by double. The only difference — the tram runs on tracks and doesn't threaten with fines.

Now the young man faces an administrative violation process that could cost from 1400 to 2000 euros and license suspension from 12 to 36 months. As one local resident said: "For that kind of money you could buy tram tickets for a lifetime and still have change left over." The speed limit on Zemnieku Street is still 50 km/h, but as we can see, not everyone takes it as a mandatory suggestion.

In Riga, such speeds would probably warrant a ceremony, but in Liepāja we simply record the fact — BMWs can fly, but only for a brief moment before police intervention. Next time choose the tram instead — slower, but without fines and with a guaranteed destination.
