BMW Driver in Grobiņa Discovers That Road Signs Are Just Suggestions

At a Grobiņa intersection, a BMW and Opel had an unexpected meeting, proving that even small towns can have big city speeds.
On Monday in Grobiņa, there was yet another proof that BMW drivers live in their own reality, where road signs are merely decorative elements. Around lunchtime, some man driving Bavarian pride decided that the "Yield" sign didn't apply to him.
As local witness Jānis tells it: "I saw how that BMW was driving. I thought - either he doesn't know what a road sign is, or he thinks Munich traffic rules apply in Grobiņa." As a result, the BMW collided with an Opel that was driving on the main road and apparently had forgotten that they live in a country where BMW drivers set their own priorities.
Police initiated administrative violation proceedings, but knowing our court system, the BMW driver will most likely receive a fine as large as what one tank of gas costs. Local residents are already debating whether a bigger road sign should be installed - maybe BMW drivers would notice it if it were the size of a BMW logo.
It's good that no one was hurt, because otherwise we'd have to explain why Grobiņa has traffic as intense as downtown Riga. But at least we don't have to drive through traffic jams on Daugavgrīvas Street - one BMW is enough for us to create traffic problems.
