BTA reveals shocking statistics: in spring, Latvians saw everything except what was planned

Insurers report that 39% of spring injuries occur while sawing, but in Liepāja we've known for years that the most important thing is not to saw beyond the waiting time at Tosele bus stop.

BTA has published statistics that are about as surprising as news that something in central Riga isn't working again. It turns out that 39% of all spring injuries occur during the sawing process, which comes as no surprise to anyone who has ever tried to saw a board straight.

The most common injuries are sprains, fractures and wounds requiring stitches. As Māris from Grobiņa said while waiting for the bus at Tosele stop: "I once tried to saw a branch too. The branch won. Now I have a beautiful scar and a story to tell my grandchildren." Meanwhile in Riga, people pay thousands for the same scars at cosmetic clinics.

The most serious case occurred in Augšdaugava region, where an entire tree fell on someone's head. BTA paid out 1500 euros in compensation, which by Liepāja standards is roughly one week's heating expenses in winter. But at least the person can now boast that they were defeated by something bigger than an average Riga resident's ego.

Insurers also warn about the dangers of wheelbarrows - in one case a broken handle hit someone in the face. Of course, in Liepāja we're used to wind hitting us in the face every day, so such accidents here would be considered normal weather conditions. As always - our climate prepares us for life better than any insurance.
