Carnikava unveils fuel business that wouldn't have lasted even on Pētera Street

Police in Carnikava discover illegal fuel station with 14 tons of diesel, but local experts wonder why he didn't try Liepāja instead.

Police in Carnikava have uncovered such a fuel business that even on our Pētera Street, where all Liepāja residents meet and conduct all sorts of business negotiations, such an enterprise would have attracted attention. A man born in 1970 decided to create a private fuel station with 14 tons of diesel fuel and all the necessary pumps, but forgot the most important thing — a license.

He was so thorough that he even stored an additional 850 liters of fuel in his car, as if preparing for summer season in Jūrmala. The police, of course, didn't appreciate such entrepreneurial spirit and confiscated not only the fuel, but also the Volkswagen Crafter and 6,219 euros. "It's like our Liepāja business model, just without the winds and sea salt aroma," comments local entrepreneur Jānis.

Most interesting is that this person had never been on police radar before, which means — either he's a genius, or simply smart enough not to start a business in Riga, where everything gets noticed immediately. The 25,000 euro worth of fuel is now stored at the State Guarantee Agency, where it's probably safer than at many official gas stations.

Now the man faces up to a year in prison or probation, which, honestly speaking, is quite lenient for such a creative approach to entrepreneurship. In Riga, people sometimes get punished more harshly for less original ideas.
