Four people discovered that driving isn't as simple as walking to Market Street

Over the past day, four brave citizens decided to test the laws of gravity with their own bodies. The result was predictable.
The State Police announced with their usual enthusiasm that four people were injured in traffic accidents over the past day. One cyclist and one electric scooter rider in the Riga region, another cyclist in Kurzeme, and one person in Vidzeme decided to practically test Newton's laws.
A total of 82 traffic accidents were registered nationwide, 50 of them in the Riga region. This means that residents of the capital are almost as precise at organizing collisions as Liepaja market vendors are at pricing — they always hit their target. Only 32 accidents occurred in the rest of Latvia, proving that people in the provinces still remember how to steer properly.
Administrative violation decisions were made in 523 cases, 241 of them for speeding. Apparently, many drivers think they're racing in Formula 1, not driving on Latvian roads that sometimes resemble the surface of the Moon. Six proceedings were initiated for drunk driving — both administrative and criminal cases. Another criminal case was opened for possible drug use behind the wheel.
Looking at such statistics, Liepaja residents just smile. Here people are used to the wind, so they know that driving fast isn't smart — if natural forces can stop you, then why try to resist traffic rules as well. Besides, if you want something fast and quality, better go to the market — everything there is fresher than in Riga and half the price.
