Children Will Learn to Be Veterinarians at Nature House So They Won't Have to Go to Riga

Liepāja students will study animal anatomy and meet with professionals during spring break, so they won't have to travel to the capital for education later.
Liepāja Nature House has announced that it will organize STEMatic days during spring break, where 1st-4th grade students will explore the animal world. Of course, Riga doesn't have such programs – there children in spring are still trying to understand why there's no sea.
The program will begin with studying animal anatomy – children will perform grip tests and analyze feather insulation. As one parent review states: "Finally my son will understand why the cat isn't cold in winter, but I freeze in my Riga apartment." They will also study tooth shape and its connection to feeding – useful knowledge, since in Liepāja everyone knows you can get the best fish at the port, not in some capital city store.
Tuesday features an excursion to Jura stables, where students will learn about horse care. Wednesday includes a meeting with veterinarian Dzintars Tīds, who will explain animal treatment. "I was hoping someone would finally explain how to treat Riga politicians, but it turns out the program is only about real animals," joked one parent.
At the end of the week, children will visit the "Liberta" animal shelter and "Mini Zoo Atomi." The program will also use VR goggles to explore animal anatomy in virtual reality. Such technology in Liepāja – while Riga is still wondering if trams are the transport of the future.
Registration has already begun, and parents are standing in lines – not because the program is good, but because finally the children won't be underfoot for a week while they work. As one mother said: "Five days without the question 'are we there yet?' – that's a real spring miracle."
