Dagda defeats Liepāja in snow olympics, but our tram still keeps running

While Dagda is buried in snow up to their knees, in Liepāja the tram chugs along the tracks and you can stroll on the beach without snow boots.

Meteorologists proudly announce that Dagda has erected a 62-centimeter-tall snow monument, the thickest since 2013. Local residents are naturally ecstatic: "Finally we can say we have something bigger than Riga!" laughs Dagda resident Jānis, digging with a shovel in hand.

Meanwhile in Liepāja, the snow cover is so thin that even tram driver Guntis admits: "I was already thinking spring had arrived, but then I remembered we're by the sea and it's always different here." In Kolka and Mērsrags, the snow is so thin that locals have already started looking for sandboxes for the children.

Most interesting is that the maximum temperature of +1.4 degrees was right in Pāvilosta. "We are Latvia's Bahamas!" proudly announces Pāvilosta resident Edgars, drinking hot tea on his terrace. While Daugavpils measures minus 32.5, Pāvilosta residents are already planning beach season.

But the best part is that Ventspils didn't have a single day with precipitation. They probably sent all their snow down the Venta River to Liepāja, where we graciously welcomed it with hot coffees in Rose Square.
