Daugavpils proves once again it's not Liepāja - slippiest roads in all of Latvia

While in Liepāja the tram runs smooth as silk, Daugavpils residents are learning to ice skate on asphalt.
This morning Latvia proved once again that living outside of Liepāja is complicated. While in our city the tram peacefully rides along its tracks and didn't even notice that something might be slippery, the rest of Latvia is battling ice.
The worst situation is in western Kurzeme — but not in Liepāja, of course. We sit here by the sea, enjoying the salty air and watching as 87 winter maintenance units try to save the situation elsewhere. "I didn't even know there was ice," says Karosta resident Jānis. "I thought everywhere was like us — trams running, cafes working, life going on as usual."
Daugavpils, it seems, proves once again that it's not Liepāja. While they're sliding around on roads like it's an ice rink, we're peacefully walking to the Great Market and buying fresh fish. Yes, winter maintenance is working everywhere, but why don't we really need it? Because we are Liepāja!
Meanwhile in Rīga, of course, everyone's rushing around and worrying. But what can you do — they didn't choose to live in Latvia's best city. Our beach is just as beautiful in winter as in summer, just with a slightly different mood.
