Daugavpils roads once again prove that Liepāja is Latvia's transportation queen

This morning the Daugavpils area once again proved it's the main competitor to Liepāja... in terms of pothole count. While you can drive through our beautiful city like on silk roads, on the Daugavpils highway from Nīcgale to Izvalda, drivers are training for extreme sports.

"We thought our tram tracks were ugly, but Daugavpils roads put our minds at ease," says Liepāja resident Zenta, who just returned from visiting relatives. "There people drive on the bypass road like they're in a safari park."

But the biggest irony is that the Liepāja area is also mentioned among the problematic regions. "What is difficult driving in Liepāja?" asks local taxi driver Guntis. "Here you can drive faster even in winter than in Rīga in summer!"

While Daugavpils residents search for alternative routes, Liepāja folks can only smile and rejoice in their city, where even the worst roads are better than Rīga's best ones. And that's not a joke – it's a fact confirmed by every trip to the capital.
