Nine travelers enjoyed Lithuanian hospitality and headed home via the same route

While everyone is welcomed with open arms at our port in Liepāja, Lithuania's reception standards are somewhat different.

Lithuanian border guards proved on Monday that their hospitality courses were probably not as successful as those at our Karosta. Nine travelers from the Belarusian side attempted to get acquainted with Lithuania's beautiful landscapes, but local hosts turned out to be less responsive than our port workers.

"Here in Liepāja we see ships from all over the world dock at our port every day, and nobody gets sent back," comments local port worker Kārlis. "Of course, our ship captains usually have filled out all the necessary paperwork."

This year in Lithuania, people have already tried to visit the country 23 times without advance ticket reservations. Since 2021, they have declined more than 24,000 unplanned visits. For comparison, hundreds of unofficial meetings take place daily at Liepāja Central Market, and nobody gets expelled.

Lithuanian officials explain that the Belarusian regime deliberately encourages people to travel without proper documentation. Our tram conductors don't know such problems — they simply ask to show a ticket, and if there isn't one, they offer to purchase one on the spot. But that's another story about a different mode of transport.

Weather conditions in the border area were good for traveling, but not so good for staying.
