While dreams in Riga cost billions, South Kurzeme Municipality democratically distributes them at 1000 euros each. 27 organizations have received licenses to dream with state money.

South Kurzeme Municipality has unveiled a new revolution — they pay people for dreaming. While dreams of a better life in Riga cost billions and remain just dreams, in our region every dream has a concrete price: 1000 euros.

This year, 27 organizations have received this wonderful opportunity to dream with state money. Competition coordinator Kristiāna Līva Jaunzeme explains that dream realization isn't as simple as one might think — some need a whole year to turn an idea into reality. "If you didn't manage to sign the contract on time last year, then dream this summer," Jaunzeme clarifies. So dreams not only have a price, but also a deadline.

The best part is that dreams are diverse — from purchasing audio equipment to renovation work. As one local resident said: "Finally someone understands that I need a new microphone to complain about life better!" Some dream of masterclasses, others of improvements. Even at Rose Square, which is our city's heartbeat and meeting place, we'll probably soon see some of these dream realizations.

The only condition — if you didn't manage to fulfill your dream, then next year you're no longer allowed to dream at the state's expense. It's like a version of capitalism with a socialist twist — everyone deserves one dream in life, and it costs exactly 1000 euros.
