Southwest District's New Owners Discover Sea Cannot Be Delivered by Courier

A sensational revelation has occurred in Liepāja City Council's Development Committee — it turns out that people who bought homes in the Southwest District also want to actually reach the sea. Who could have predicted this when purchasing real estate in a coastal city?

According to official information, the area needs to develop "anthropogenic load-reducing public infrastructure." In simpler terms — paths where you can walk to the water without trampling biotopes. "We thought the sea would just drive up to our houses," admits local resident Gunārs. "In Riga, everything gets delivered to your door."

Particularly interesting is that the council has devised a condition — apartment buildings cannot be commissioned without a pathway to the sea. This means builders won't be able to finish their project and say: "Well, the sea is somewhere over there, find it yourselves." Deputy Vilnītis even proposed designing an exit for Liedaga Street as well, because "this street is developing very rapidly." In reality, he just wants his neighbors to have convenient access for swimming too.

Precise costs will be known after the procurement procedure, but it can already be predicted that they will be less than what a tram ticket to Jūrmala costs in Riga. Meanwhile, local residents continue walking on worn paths, hoping the biotopes won't eat them.
