After explosions in Dubai only sand remains on the beach, Liepāja's South Kurzeme beach once again proves its superiority

While they're shooting rockets in the far east, the biggest problem on our beach is finding a free spot by Pērkons Dam.
Explosions were heard in Dubai yesterday and hotels are burning, but here in Liepāja we've been hearing explosions for years every time someone tries to start their Moskvitch near the Olimpija shopping center. And the result is just as effective.
While the rich folks of the Persian Gulf are afraid of rockets, our locals confidently head to Karosta prison for photo shoots. "I've never felt as safe as I do in Liepāja," says pensioner Jānis from Old Liepāja. "Here the biggest risk is slipping on ice near the Central Market or the tram breaking down again for half a year."
A night at the burning hotel on Palm Island costs more than an average Liepāja resident's monthly salary, but our hotels are just as exclusive — we just don't need rockets to make them empty in winter. It happens naturally.
But seriously speaking, while people far in the east are fearing for their safety, we here can peacefully go to Liepāja Theatre or sit in the "Fontaine Palace" café and think about how good it is that we live in a place where the loudest explosion sound is when a Grobiņa driver crashes his bus into a Rīga minibus again at the railway crossing.
