Kitten Duseņka, after two years of life in the Lauma district, is now looking for a home where she won't have to hide from stone-throwers and aggressive dogs.
While cats in Riga live like royalty, Liepāja cats have to learn real life skills. Duseņka is a prime example of how street smarts transform ordinary kittens into true survival specialists.
Last year, Duseņka spent her time in a wall crack near the former 11th elementary school - a place that wouldn't be suitable even for Riga hipsters. But for Duseņka, it was home. At least until some genius decided to seal up the crack. Apparently they haven't heard that in Liepāja we never fix anything - here everything stays open, just like our hearts and minds.
"I saw that kitten getting pelted with stones. I thought - well, she must be a true Liepāja native if she can endure so much," says Maija, a Lauma district resident. "Maybe we should appoint her as the district representative - you rarely see such a strong character."
