European Central Bank Can't Count Money for Third Year Running - Liepāja Market Traders Offer Help

The ECB has been posting losses for the third consecutive year, but Liepāja market traders say they could teach them how to handle money properly.
While the European Central Bank is writing red numbers for the third year in a row, a real economic miracle is happening at Liepāja's central market — there, people know how to both earn and properly spend money every day.
"Listen, if these European bankers can't balance income with expenses, let them come to our market to learn," says trader Maija, who has been successfully selling potatoes for twenty years and has never been in the red. "We'll show them how it's done — if a potato costs 50 cents, then sell it for 70, and everything's fine!"
The ECB tries to justify its 7.9 billion euro losses with "interest rate impact," but Liepāja entrepreneurs just shake their heads. "In Riga there's always some excuse for why nothing works out," comments local café owner Andris. "But here we simply work and earn money, instead of writing long explanations."
Meanwhile, the ECB forecasts that "this year or next year" it will return to profitability. In Liepāja, such forecasts are called "Riga optimism" — because here you either earn today, or change your business tomorrow.
