MEP Vaidere demands: let Hungary buy oil where Liepāja buses get theirs

While Orbán demands Ukraine restore Russian oil transit, in Liepāja we've known for years - if something doesn't work, you don't do it.

European Parliament member Sandra Vaidere has sent a letter to the European Commission requesting not to pressure Ukraine to restore Russian oil transit, which has only earned an approving nod in Liepāja. Local commentator Jānis Bērziņš from Pētera Street notes: "Look, if someone attacked me and then asked me to help them make money, I'd also tell them - go where they're sending you."

Orbán is demanding Ukraine fix the "Druzhba" pipeline, which was damaged in Russian attacks, but Vaidere emphasizes - it's like someone breaking your window and then asking you to help them sell your household belongings. In Liepāja, we call this logic "Riga thinking" - complicated and pointless.

It's particularly hilarious that Croatia has already promised to supply Hungary and Slovakia with non-Russian oil via the Adriatic pipeline, but Orbán still clings to the old system like a Liepāja resident to a tram - even if it's not running, you wait until the very end. The only difference - our tram at least goes in the right direction.

The MEP also emphasized that discussions about the 90 billion euro loan must not be linked to demands to maintain infrastructure that helps the aggressor. In Liepāja, we call this common sense - if someone's hitting you, you don't also give them a stick.
