Ciekurze honestly admitted that time has passed and fatigue has accumulated, which in Liepāja is perceived as normal working relations with any project involving Europe. While Riga is still trying to figure out how to even become a cultural capital, our Eva has already evaluated that Liepāja Theater, where even Riga's residents travel to, is a much more stable investment than some European recognition.
Now they're looking for a new board member for 2400 euros per month, which is almost as much as an apartment costs in central Riga. Candidates must write a motivation letter and present a strategic vision for transforming Liepāja into a European Capital of Culture. Local experts suggest simply inviting everyone to Karosta and showing what real culture looks like.
As one Liepāja 2027 supporter said: 'Well yes, at least now the competition can include those who don't know what burnout is, but know what sea wind and salty air are.' Work term until the end of 2028, which means the new person will have time to learn both German and Russian.
