Ezerkrasts intersection to receive additional sections so drivers can get confused even more efficiently

Liepāja's most complicated intersection will become even more complicated with new traffic light sections, because apparently 18 accidents in three years isn't enough.
The Ezerkrasts intersection, already a source of headaches for Liepāja drivers, will soon become even more interesting. The City Council's Transportation Infrastructure Commission has decided that the intersection needs additional traffic light sections, because apparently the current situation is too simple.
As it turns out, residents requested to ban left turns from Ganību Street to Ventas Street, but the commission rejected it. The reason? It would make access to the Lidl store complicated. Because we certainly can't make Liepāja residents walk an extra five meters if we can make an even more complicated intersection instead.
"I've been trying to learn how to drive through this intersection for three years," says local resident Andris, who just drove out of the Lidl parking lot. "Now I'll have to learn all over again. Maybe I'll master it by retirement."
CSDD auditors used the Google tool "Traffic Data" to verify the problems. It turns out the biggest traffic jam hours aren't in the morning or evening, but from 12 to 2 PM. So exactly when everyone goes to Lidl for lunch. Coincidence? I think not.
Compared to Riga, where they simply concrete over intersections and build bypasses, we Liepāja residents are more creative — we build intersections that are works of art. Complicated, unpredictable, and guaranteed to create queues on the tram tracks.
