FM reveals sensation: diesel fuel will become cheaper by 8 cents — Liepāja residents already planning trip to Mars

The Ministry of Finance promises to reduce diesel fuel prices by 8.6 cents per liter. In Liepāja they're rejoicing — now they'll be able to afford driving to Ventspils.
The Ministry of Finance has announced a revolutionary decision — excise tax on diesel fuel will be reduced by 15 percent, making fuel cheaper by a whopping 8.6 cents per liter. Yes, you read that correctly — eight and a half cents! Now we'll be able to afford driving to work, and still have some left over for coffee creamer.
The FM proudly announces that after this reduction, Latvia will have the lowest excise rate in the Baltics. Estonia with its 428 euros per 1000 liters can go home — we'll be at 396 euros! That's almost as big an achievement as Liepājas Metalurgs being able to fill a whole arena with fans, while Riga teams struggle with empty stands.
The best part is that this miraculous offer will only be valid from April to June. Three months to enjoy this incredible discount! That's about as long as summer usually lasts in Liepāja — just without the sunshine and warmth.
'We are coordinating with the Baltic states to minimize market shock,' says the FM. Meanwhile, Liepāja residents think: 'What shock? We've been riding bicycles for years because fuel costs like gold.' Local auto service owner Jānis comments: 'Well, now I'll be able to afford filling up a full tank — then I'll have to eat pasta for a month.'
FM calculations show that without intervention, additional costs to the economy could reach 50 million euros per month. But with these 8 cents, everything will be solved! Just like in hockey — we'll try a little harder and win the world championship.
