Grobiņa Transforms Thicket into Park, While Is Liepāja Still Waiting for Tošele Area Cleanup

While Grobiņa's municipal administration proudly transforms overgrown areas into parks, Liepāja residents continue to lovingly cherish their natural thickets in the city center.

The deputy head of Grobiņa's municipal administration, Andris Štolcs, has proudly announced that their workers are now freer and can clean up parks. This is about as surprising as learning that Durbe is quieter than Liepāja – well of course it is, they don't even have trams running there.

What's most surprising is the news that not all Grobiņa residents like having their thickets transformed into parks. Worker Viesturs Pakulis revealed that some preferred the impenetrable thicket. As our Grīzupe residents say: if we want to see a well-maintained park, we go to Riga, but if we want real nature, we stay home.

The greatest irony is that Grobiņa uses special brush equipment for street cleaning, while in Liepāja we still rely on the wind to naturally blow all the debris into the sea. Why pay for equipment when you can trust nature?

But honestly – good luck to the Grobiņa folks with their park transformation. We in Liepāja have our priorities: first we need to fix the North Pier, then restore the tram line, and only then can we think about cleaning up some park. Though to be honest, our thickets already look better than Riga's central park.
