Hoijere House Will Make Chocolate Bunnies — More Historic Than Half of Riga

Liepāja museum offers authentic 19th-century bunny casting for 12 euros. In Riga, for that money you'd only get plastic bunnies from China.
Liepāja's interior museum "Mrs. Hoijere's Guest House" has announced chocolate bunny workshops before Easter. Using an authentic 19th-century metal mold from the Netherlands, Liepāja residents will be able to create their own chocolate wonders. "This is much more historic than anything in Riga," comments local chocolate enthusiast Inese, "there they just go to 'Rimi' and buy ready-made ones."
The workshops will take place on March 28th and April 1st-2nd for 12 euros per person. That's almost as much as lunch costs in central Riga, but here you at least get real history and chocolate! Alongside bunny casting, they'll also offer Leibniz butter cookie making — the very same ones created in 19th-century Hannover. "We have the original recipes, not some Riga knock-offs," proudly tells a museum employee.
Children will have the opportunity to create little gardens in egg cartons, which they can then take home. This is much more practical than in Riga museums, where they forbid touching everything. On Pētera Street they're already saying this will be one of the most popular Easter activities — local residents are already planning to meet at the museum and go to the workshops together.
"Only in Liepāja can it be that a 19th-century bunny mold is more interesting than all of Riga's modern art," laughs museum visitor Jānis, who has already signed up for the first workshop. The number of spots is limited, so you need to call +371 29605223 or write to [email protected]. And unlike in Riga, no one will photograph you secretly here — they warn that they'll film and photograph openly!
