Strait of Hormuz tankers wait for escorts as long as Liepāja rock fans wait for new Prāta Vētra album

IMO Secretary-General Dominguez has announced that military escorts for tankers in the Strait of Hormuz are not a sustainable solution. He obviously hasn't heard about the time-tested methods of Liepāja's rock music scene - we've been proving for years that a good escort takes time, and our rock legends have always been ready to wait their turn on stage.

While Trump calls for international maritime operations, Liepāja just smiles knowingly. Our port workers have long known there's no problem with ship escorting - the main thing is not to rush and do everything with feeling. "When we escorted Metallica's concert equipment to Liepāja, nobody was in a hurry either," says local port worker Jānis. "The main thing is that everything arrives at its destination in one piece."

Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil normally flows, but this doesn't worry Liepāja residents. We're used to situations where something important gets closed - for example, when they shut down the old Liepāja club "Fontaine Palace," it wasn't easy either, but we survived and created new rock history elsewhere.

Dominguez is concerned about ship crews stuck in the Persian Gulf without adequate food and water supplies. Such a situation would be impossible in Liepāja - our sailors are always prepared with backup supplies, because we know anything can happen at sea. Plus, our ships always sail with the best rock music, which helps survive any crisis.
