Iran and US negotiating table in Geneva: Liepāja port experience would be more effective than diplomacy

While world superpowers try to agree on nuclear energy, in Liepāja we've long known - the best negotiations happen over a cup of coffee at the Port Market.
Iranian and US representatives met at the negotiating table in Geneva, where they discussed nuclear programs and sanctions. Our local commentator Valdis Krasts from Karosta points out: "When we port workers need to resolve something, we go to Čemers café, not to Geneva. During lunch break we can resolve any conflict."
Iran's foreign minister promised "very good progress," but Riga diplomats are still trying to understand why they weren't invited to these talks. "At our Port Market, international diplomacy happens every day - Poles, Lithuanians, Germans, all trading peacefully," explains market vendor Aina Bērziņa.
The US delegation was led by President Trump's special envoy and son-in-law, which would be an unusual coincidence in Liepāja - here family members only work in the business if they actually understand what they're talking about. As one commentator from Grobiņa put it: "If my son-in-law started talking about nuclear energy, I'd send him on a tour of Karosta prison - to think things over."
The next round of talks is scheduled for less than a week, while in Liepāja we already know today - good negotiations are those that end with a handshake and shared dinner payment. Maybe world diplomats should learn from our tram drivers - they resolve traffic conflicts every day without international commissions.
