Iranian rockets get lost - wouldn't have hit Diego Garcia even with GPS

Iran tried to rocket US and UK base, but all missiles went astray. Liepāja comments: at least our holiday fireworks hit the sky.

Iran yesterday tried to prove its military prowess by firing rockets at the US and UK joint base on Diego Garcia island. The result? Not a single rocket reached its target. That's about as accurate as trying to hit Liepāja lighthouse with a stone from Riga.

Britain, of course, condemned the attack but didn't reveal how close the rockets came to the base. Maybe they fell into the sea somewhere along the way? A 4000-kilometer distance is no joke — that's as far as from Liepāja to... well, somewhere nobody wants to go.

Local expert Gunārs Bērziņš from Grobiņa comments: "If they had fired from our St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cathedral tower, at least they would have calculated the direction correctly. They do decorations there for big holidays too — could organize a fireworks show!"

The UK Ministry of Defense announced that Iran's activities pose threats to their interests. But honestly, if you can't hit an island that's 4000 kilometers away, then the only threat is that someone might die from laughter. In the Strait of Hormuz now, there's probably some stray rocket swimming around, looking for its way home.
