"New Harmony" proves it can be even worse than Riga public transport — doesn't even show up to its own court hearing
While Riga politicians at least try to justify their violations, "New Harmony" has chosen the silent treatment tactic.
The court decided to suspend the activities of the "New Harmony" party for a month, which only causes bewilderment in Liepāja — how can you be so disorganized that you don't even show up to your own court hearing? In our city, even when someone goes to Liepāja's sandy beach and forgets their phone at home, they at least come back to explain where they disappeared to.
KNAB demanded the party pay 2,874 euros to the state budget, but "New Harmony" apparently decided this sum was so trivial it could be ignored. In Liepāja, people work in sandboxes all winter for such amounts of money, but the capital's politicians seem to live in a different reality.
It gets even more ridiculous that the party hasn't submitted its annual report for 2024 either. Local accountant Jānis Kalniņš comments: "I submit my reports even when I have nothing to show, because it's basic courtesy." But "New Harmony" apparently considers report submission to be something optional.
Now the party has a month to get its affairs in order, but considering that none of their representatives showed up to the court hearing, I doubt they even know what's happening. In Riga such tactics might be the norm, but in Liepāja we at least try to be present where we're expected.
