An architectural sensation has occurred in Liepāja — SIA 'SC Liepāja' has discovered that worn-out buildings can be demolished and new ones built in their place. This innovative solution, which hasn't been thought of in Riga yet, involves dismantling buildings with 40-65 percent deterioration at Jaunā ostmala 7 and constructing a modern single-story facility.
As we learned from construction board specialist Dace Freidenfelde, the old buildings are so deteriorated that even the roof has caved in. 'It's almost as sad as listening to rock music without Liepāja seasoning,' comments local resident Guntars. 'But at least now there will be somewhere to buy a hamburger without driving to Riga.'
The demolition work will be performed by a certified specialist who, unlike many other projects, actually knows how to properly separate asbestos cement and roofing felt. Work will begin in April, when it's finally warm enough for workers to take off their winter jackets.
The new building will be a fast food establishment, which is exactly what Liepāja was missing — another place to eat. The construction project is being developed by SIA 'Diānas Zalānes projektu birojs,' and although the facade colors haven't been agreed upon yet, we can safely hope it won't be pink with green polka dots.
