Jordan hit with 240 rockets – more than Liepāja's tram stops per year

While rockets are flying in the Middle East, our tram in Liepāja peacefully continues its route without air defense.

Jordan's army has announced that since the start of the war, 240 rockets and drones have been fired at their country. To put this number in perspective, in Liepāja we would compare it to how many times per year our tram stops at each station – also about 240 times, just without explosions.

The Royal Air Force reportedly intercepted 222 of these rockets, which is a considerably better result than Liepāja's traffic controllers dealing with winter conditions. As local pensioner Vilnis said at the railway station: "Well, we also sometimes get unexpected things falling from the sky, but we call it snow."

Particularly interesting is that last week Jordan was hit with 36 rockets and drones, of which defense forces failed to prevent one attack. In Liepāja we also sometimes fail to prevent one attack – when the tram gets stuck in snow and all passengers start swearing.

Meanwhile, the US and Israel continue their campaign against Iran, but here by the sea, our main problem is that tram tickets cost 70 cents. As they say in Karosta: "Better they fire rockets than raise ticket prices!"
