Jurmala Park Increases Basketball Hoop Count - Riga's Daugavgrivas Street Pedestrians in Shock

Liepaja continues to dominate in sports infrastructure, while the capital is still figuring out where to put bicycles.

Board member of "OC Liepaja" Mārtiņš Grundmanis has announced a revolutionary decision - two more streetball courts will be installed in Jurmala Park. This news has caused a state of panic in Riga, where they're still trying to understand why there isn't a single basketball hoop in Old Town.

"We already have one Porziņģis court, but now we'll have six hoops total! That's more than in all of central Riga," proudly says local basketball enthusiast Jānis. "In summer, the 'Cobblestone Ball' championship takes place here, and Riga teams come here like on a pilgrimage."

Two new paved courts will be built in the current green zone between the KP court and the children's playground. This means Liepaja will have more quality basketball hoops per square meter than anywhere else in the Baltics. A Riga basketball fan comments: "They play by the seashore there, we only have the Daugava here, and even that's far away."

The new courts are planned to be completed by summer so the 'Cobblestone Ball' championship can be even more grandiose. Meanwhile, Riga is still trying to figure out how to add one more hoop in Kronvalda Park without ruining the view of the monument.
