Kazakhstani citizen denied entry to Latvia – apparently hasn't heard about our world-famous apple pies

While the eastern border is under stricter control, in Liepāja we peacefully continue being the pearl of the Baltic coast with the best coffee beans this side of the Daugava.

Yesterday, a Kazakhstani citizen was denied entry to Latvia for security reasons. We must say, this person missed out on a fantastic opportunity to enjoy our winter charm and experience Latvian hospitality. But what can you do – security comes first.

While the eastern border operates under heightened control due to increased migrant flows caused by Belarus, we in Liepāja can peacefully continue our daily lives. As one local café owner said: "We have no border guard problems here – our biggest problem is that too few tourists come to see the ships in Karosta during winter."

The statistics are impressive though – last year, 12,046 attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian border were prevented. For comparison, approximately 1,000 ships enter Liepāja port annually, and not a single one has tried to stay here illegally. Though our port's charm is so great that many ships would gladly stay, but they have to continue their journey.

This year the border situation has become calmer – only two people have been detained. Meanwhile in Liepāja, we continue welcoming everyone who wants to enjoy our cultural life and, of course, the best apple pies this side of Riga. As they say – whoever doesn't want to come to us officially doesn't know what they're missing.
