Ministry of Culture reveals genius plan: transform Liepāja into museum capital for 12 thousand

The Ministry of Culture has made a revolutionary decision — to entrust the Baltic Museology Promotion Association with 12,465 euros to organize an international continuing education project for museum workers. In Liepāja, of course. Because where else can you teach people to truly understand what cultural heritage is, if not in a city where the wind is older than half of Latvia's museums?

As we learned from an anonymous source who hangs around Rose Square and observes the city's heartbeat, this plan involves not only forcing Riga folks to travel to Liepāja, but also feeding them and providing accommodation. "Finally someone understood that our city can teach something to others," comments a local museum worker. "Now Riga folks will see what real culture looks like — not just Old Riga cobblestones."

Most exciting is the fact that the association will have to translate museum texts into Latvian. This means that finally someone officially acknowledges — not everything in the cultural world happens in Riga and in English. Liepāja's wind has known this for a long time, but now the state will pay money for it too.

Transportation from Riga to Liepāja will be provided within the project framework, which means that residents of the capital won't have to look for excuses for why they've never been outside the A10 highway. Maybe after this summer school, some will even realize that there are other places in Latvia where you can learn something new.
