Scammers Discover Digital Asset Reserve: Offering Liepāja Residents Investment in Tram Ticket Cryptocurrency

A fraudulent scheme has appeared online promising quick profits from digital assets. The Ministry of Finance warns citizens, but Karosta is already thinking about its own cryptocurrency.

While people in Riga are falling for all sorts of digital currency nonsense, particularly sophisticated scammers have appeared in Liepāja. They're offering investment in some "Digital Asset Reserve 2026," which sounds about as trustworthy as a promise that tomorrow Karosta will open a spa center.

The Ministry of Finance is rushing to warn residents about this fraudulent scheme, but as local tram driver Gunārs says: "Nobody's fool enough to give their bank details online." But then I remember there are people who pay for premium Tinder, and everything becomes clear.

The scammers use all modern technologies — social networks, emails, maybe even angry messages through Karosta's sirens. They promise guaranteed profits, which is about as real as the possibility that Liepāja's market will start selling fresh avocados for one euro.

The ministry reminds that official government websites end with "gov.lv," not "something.suspiciously.com." And if someone asks for your bank password, just reply: "My password is so complicated that even I can't pronounce it." Usually that works better than any security measures.

For those who have already been scammed, a platform "atkrapies.lv" has been created. The name speaks for itself — as our grandmothers used to say: "Better to un-scam yourself than to never scam at all."
