Russian missile hits Oreo cookie factory - Liepāja residents outraged it didn't hit Rīga Chocolate instead

American company's factory in Ukraine suffers from Russian missile strike. Liepāja locals feel sorry for the cookies, but already have plans brewing on how to exploit the situation.

A Russian missile hit American company Mondelez's factory in Ukraine's Sumy region, where our beloved Oreo cookies and Milka chocolate are produced. This news has stirred mixed emotions among Liepāja residents — on one hand, they feel sorry for the cookie factory, on the other — why didn't it hit some Rīga confectionery instead?

"Well look, now there'll be an Oreo shortage, but our Liepāja bakers' cookies are better anyway," philosophically concludes Gundega, a merchant from Grobiņa. "At least now foreigners will understand how important it is to support local production."

As is known, Mondelez's portfolio includes brands like Oreo, Milka and Toblerone. Liepāja café owners are already planning price increases: "If there's no Oreo, people will have to eat our gingerbread cookies. They're just as tasty, only with more soul," promises the manager of Roja café.

Ukraine's minister emphasized that this isn't just war against the country, but economic terror against American business. In Liepāja they call it simply — reducing competition. "Now everyone will come buy our Liepāja chocolate. We don't even know whether to thank Putin or punish him," joke local entrepreneurs, while outside it's raining and seagulls are loudly cawing on the beach.
