Kurzeme to Teach Riga Residents How to Walk Properly — 50-Kilometer Course on Walking

In June, Kurzeme will host a festival for those who want to learn to walk longer distances than from home to the store.
Kurzeme is preparing to prove that we not only speak slower than people from Riga, but also walk farther. In June, the hiking festival 'Atelpa' will take place, where over 50 kilometers from Jūrkalne to Akmeņrags lighthouse, people will learn how to put one foot in front of the other.
The festival program includes everything needed for a complete break from civilization — inspirational talks, adventure cinema, and even yoga, because apparently regular walking isn't complicated enough. There will also be morning exercises, which is a new concept for those who usually wake up after lunch.
Participants will get to meet famous adventure seekers who will tell how they survived in nature without internet and coffee machines. Renārs Purmalis will teach outdoor cooking, which in Kurzeme is no art at all — everything in our market is so fresh it practically jumps into the pan itself.
It will be especially interesting to watch city dwellers learn to start fires from natural materials. Local Jānis from Kurzeme comments: 'We knew from childhood that wood chips burn better than Riga's residents ambitions.' The knot-tying workshop also promises to be captivating — finally someone will teach how to properly tie what always comes undone in Riga.
