Kurzeme prepares for frost and fog festival, Riga as usual nothing special
While the capital thinks about +4 degrees, Kurzeme is preparing the real winter experience with -7 and fog as a bonus.
Meteorologists have announced that fog and frost will form in Kurzeme overnight, which is basically just an elegant way of saying - we'll have real weather, not that capital city greenhouse imitation.
While Riga proudly promises +4 degrees and "sun will appear at times" (oh, how bold!), we true Kurzemnieki are preparing for a -7 degree adventure. "Finally, real weather!" says Ilze from Grobiņa. "In Riga they already think +1 is cold. For us -7 is just a warm December day."
The situation with fog is especially amusing - it will form exactly where it should form, not like in Riga, where fog is only from smog and car exhaust fumes. Our fog is natural, ecological and enriched with sea salt. A premium class product, you could say.
In Liepāja, of course, it will be the best option - not too hot, not too cold, just right so the tram runs and cafes are open. Local barista Andrejs comments: "When Riga has +4, we'll have perfect +2. That's Liepāja's advantage - we're always one degree better than needed."
Rain will start Tuesday afternoon, which means Riga residents will finally receive that moisture we've been enjoying every day for months. Welcome to our world, capital city!
