98 accidents in Latvia, but silence in Liepāja — our drivers apparently got lost on their way to church

While all of Latvia is colliding, Liepāja drivers turn out to be the most likely followers of safety rules — or they simply don't know where the gas pedal is.
In Latvia, 98 traffic accidents occurred in the past day, which is about as many times as a Liepāja resident tries to find a parking spot at Rose Square on Saturday morning. Four people died, which is serious, of course, but the statistics make you wonder about our compatriots' driving skills.
In the Riga region, where 51 accidents occurred, drivers have proven that even driving is a stress sport in the capital. Two people were injured there, including one pedestrian, who probably tried to cross the street faster than the average Riga resident can say "my dad is a deputy."
In Zemgale, 18 accidents without casualties show that drivers there at least know how to crash skillfully — apparently grain fields teach patience. In Kurzeme, 10 accidents also without victims, which proves that in our region people at least know how to have accidents properly.
What's most surprising is Liepāja's silence in these statistics. Either our drivers are so cautious they drive slower than pedestrians, or they've all gathered at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral to bless their cars before driving out. Maybe such a blessing ritual is exactly what the rest of Latvia is missing.
