Latvia sends Russia a protest note for lying less creatively than Riga's public transport schedule

While Russia tries to convince the world that Latvia is launching drones from its fields, our diplomats are writing letters with about as much hope for success as learning to swim at Liepāja Olympic Center in winter.

Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced today that it has sent Russia a protest note regarding a disinformation campaign. This is about as effective as filing a noise complaint against a neighbor who lives in another country and hates your guts.

Russia claims that Latvia allows its territory to be used for drone attacks. This is about as believable as the story that the pool at Liepāja Olympic Center is heated to tropical temperatures in winter. Local resident Jānis Bērziņš comments: "If we're really launching drones, then where are these drone-launching people? All I see are those trying to leave Latvia, not come to it."

The MFA reminds that Russia's war is a violation of international law. This is about as much of a revelation as the fact that Liepāja's wind blows harder than Riga politicians' promises. Russia is trying to divert attention from its inability to defend against Ukrainian attacks — roughly the same way Riga tries to divert attention from not having a proper port.

The protest note will, of course, be ignored with the same grand scale that Russia ignores all other international norms. But at least now our diplomats can say they're doing something while others deal with the real problems.
