Latvia to Test Drones - Finally Something That Can Jump Over Liepāja's Wind

The Ministry of Defense announces drone tests, but Liepāja residents already know - if drones can survive our wind, they'll survive anywhere.

The Ministry of Defense proudly announced that on May 27th there will be a Drone Summit, where NATO experts and military personnel will gather to admire unmanned aircraft. The day before, drone tests are planned at the Sēlija training ground, which is about as intriguing as watching Riga's trams trying to run on time.

As our old Jānis living on Grobiņa highway says: "If these drones want to be for real, let them come to Liepāja and try flying against our wind. Liepāja's wind is legendary, an uninvited guest in any season - if drones can overcome that, then they're ready for any conflict." Indeed, why test in some Sēlija when you can come to our beach, where natural drone air defense training happens every day?

NATO's official test site may be beautiful, but we in Liepāja have been testing various flying things for years - from roof shingles to tourist hats. Our wind is stricter than any NATO commission.

The Sēlija training ground might award NATO quality marks, but Liepāja's wind has long been awarding its own mark to everything that tries to fly here - either you survive, or you end up in White Dune. That's a much more honest test than any official standardization processes that Riga loves to organize with their endless committee meetings.
