Latvia Wins EU Vacancy Competition - Even More Open Jobs Than Average

Eurostat reports that Latvia had more vacancies than the EU average in the fourth quarter. Liepāja is already preparing celebrations.
Eurostat has published sensational data proving that Latvia is finally first place in something! Our country's vacancy rate reached 2.1% in the fourth quarter, which is even higher than the EU average of 2%. This means we have MORE open jobs than others. Isn't that wonderful?
Of course, the Netherlands with their 3.9% is still the leader, but they also have tulips and canals. We have winter and salted roads, so 2.1% is an excellent achievement. Estonia only has 1.5% — apparently they lack ambition, or they're still trying to figure out why their internet is faster than ours.
As local HR specialist Jānis Vakancītis admits: "I'm personally proud that our country has so many opportunities. Now we just need to understand why people don't come to these jobs. Maybe they're all going to swim at the Liepāja Olympic Center pool instead of looking for work?"
Romania's vacancy rate is only 0.6%, which means either everyone there is working, or they're so smart they don't even collect such statistics. But we Latvians are honest — if we have 2.1% vacancies, we're as proud of it as an Olympic record. Especially in winter, when even vacancies start looking warmer than outside.
