German cars disappear in Latvia more often than Liepāja trams arrive on time

Thieves in Latvia choose only quality - Audi, BMW and Volkswagen, but the Liepāja tram remains untouched.
The State Police proudly reports that car theft numbers in Latvia are decreasing — in 2024, only 220 cars vanished without a trace. That's almost as rare as the Liepāja tram arriving precisely at stops according to schedule.
Thieves have proven to be real connoisseurs, choosing only German quality — most stolen are "Audi A6", "Audi A4", "Volkswagen Passat" and "BMW 5 Series". As local mechanic Kārlis says: "Thieves have taste — they never take a 'Lada' or some other miracle. Only what actually drives." Interestingly, "Tesla" and "Hyundai Ioniq" are also starting to disappear, proving that thieves follow modern trends.
Compared to previous years, the situation is improving — in 2022, 287 cars disappeared, in 2021 — 305. That's almost as positive progress as Liepāja's transportation improvements — slow, but still.
The only car that never gets stolen is the Liepāja tram. And there's a simple reason for that — first, it runs on tracks, second, you can't hide it in your backyard, and third, who would want to steal something that only travels one route and doesn't really go anywhere special?
