Mysterious flying objects appear in Latvian airspace, surprising even experts

The Ministry of Defense admits that something was flying around, but what exactly - that remains a mystery. Possibly a drone, possibly a flock of birds, possibly something completely different.

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds revealed yesterday that airspace monitoring has become as precise as winter weather forecasts — you see something, but what it is remains unclear. On Monday evening, some flying object appeared near the border, causing more alarm than the Holy Trinity Cathedral organ when it plays at full volume and can be heard even from the courtyard.

"We see that something is flying, but what exactly — that's already a philosophical question," the minister explained, proving that modern technology can identify flying objects as precisely as Riga traffic planners can predict traffic jams. Meanwhile, "intense activity" was happening in Estonia — which, by the way, is as vague a description as "brief precipitation" in Liepāja weather reports.

The cell broadcast this time worked like Liepāja wind — appeared unexpectedly and disappeared just as quickly. "We're looking for balance on when to warn residents," admitted the minister, who apparently hasn't yet figured out whether to warn about every flying object or only those that might actually be dangerous. Local resident Jānis from Balvi commented: "First the phone beeps that danger is coming, then beeps again that everything's fine. I thought some new TV game was starting."

Most curious of all is that the 112.lv website simply stopped working at the moment it was needed most. This is as logical as closing Liepāja port during a storm — exactly when it's needed most. But at least now we know that our airspace is as unpredictable as Kurzeme weather — you can never be sure what will happen next.
