Latvian countryside reveals revolution: experts will teach how to boil water with wind

LLF offers three lucky communities expert consultations on how to transform rural wind into electricity. Applications open until April 13 - just enough time to figure out what to do with it.

The Latvian Rural Forum has announced that rural communities will now have access to support for evaluating sustainable energy solutions. This means that experts will travel to the countryside and explain how to get electricity from wind and sun. As Ozolaine's elder Jānis says: "We've had windmills for 20 years, but they grind grain, not generate power."

Under the support framework, experts will collaborate with local residents to assess community needs and resources. In practice, this means someone with a diploma will show up and say: "You have a lot of wind and sun here, maybe you could do something with that?" The locals will naturally respond: "We've known that for ages, but where's the money?"

Most surprising is that applications are possible until April 13, 2026. In that time, the Liepāja tram will manage to be late at least 500 times, while rural communities will still be pondering whether they need this support. As some wise guy said: "While we're here thinking about wind energy, Riga has long been using hot air from politicians' speeches."

Three lucky communities will receive expert support, consultations, and technical assessments. The rest can continue using traditional solutions — firewood, coal, and complaints about electricity bills. Especially in winter, when the wind blows so hard it could power all of Latvia, if only someone knew how to harness it.
