Latvian pyromaniacs surpass even Metalurgs fans with their stubble burning passion

On Friday, 67 stubble fires were extinguished, proving that our compatriots' passion for flames exceeds even hockey emotions.

On Friday, 67 stubble fires were extinguished across Latvia, proving that our compatriots' fascination with fire is as unstoppable as Liepāja "Metalurgs" fans chanting at the Olympic Center. The only difference is that hockey fans pay for tickets, while stubble burners get fined.

The biggest show took place in Cēre parish, Tukums region, where stubble burned across 65 hectares. That's roughly the same area needed to build one normal residential house in Riga, except here everything was free and without building permits. In Medumi parish, Augšdaugava region, someone decided to host their own private light festival across ten hectares.

In Jēkabpils, the situation became especially creative — not only did stubble burn there, but also waste piles across 100 square meters. As a local says: "If I'm already burning, might as well do everything at once — more economical!"

VUGD reminds that stubble burning is prohibited and dangerous, but apparently for some residents this announcement is as effective as trying to convince a Riga resident that Liepāja is better than the capital. Theoretically correct, practically — pointless.
